Recoverben® - Muscle recovery

Recoverben® is a lemon verbena extract (Aloysia citriodora) clinically studied to support muscle recovery and the maintenance of muscle strength following intense exercise. Supported by a published human clinical study. 400 mg/day.

Recoverben® - Key features

  • Lemon verbena extract
  • Involved in pathways linked to exercise‑induced muscle stress
  • Supports muscle function and strength maintenance
  • Clinically studied for post‑exercise muscle recovery
  • Designed for sports nutrition and active lifestyles

Science supporting Recoverben®

Recoverben® has been investigated through mechanistic studies, including an in‑vitro evaluation indicating involvement in cyclooxygenase‑related pathways. Its relevance for post‑exercise use in sports nutrition has been further supported by a human clinical study conducted in 37 active adults.

Muscle‑related observations following intense exercise

Recoverben® has been clinically evaluated in the context of intense exercise, with observations focused on biomarkers and functional parameters related to exercise‑induced muscle stress.
Creatine kinase (CK) is a commonly used biomarker associated with muscle stress and is typically increased following intense physical activity.

In the clinical study, the exhaustive exercise protocol induced a marked increase in CK levels in the placebo group, confirming the occurrence of muscle stress.

At 48 hours post‑exercise, participants supplemented with Recoverben® showed lower circulating CK levels compared with placebo, indicating differences in the physiological response to exercise‑induced muscle stress.

Muscle function and strength parameters

Muscle function assessments are considered a relevant indicator of the impact of intense exercise on muscle performance.

In the clinical study, maximal voluntary contractions were less affected following exercise in the Recoverben® group, compared with placebo.

Participants receiving Recoverben® showed a return to baseline muscle function within two days, whereas reduced muscle function persisted for a longer period in the placebo group.

These observations support the relevance of Recoverben® for sports nutrition applications designed to support muscle function and post‑exercise recovery in active individuals.

Recoverben® is safe

No adverse event linked to Recoverben® supplementation has been recorded.
